The State Fair of Texas is known for fried food, agriculture, football, music and trucks. A Texas tradition since 1886, the State Fair celebrates all things Texan … and what’s more Texan than a new truck? Our favorite part of the State Fair is the Auto Show! You may have heard that everything is bigger in Texas and the Auto Show is no exception. With approximately 400 of the latest models, the State Fair is the largest new car auto show in the Southwest.
There are four car attractions to see at the State Fair, the Classic Corral , Chevrolet’s Ride & Drive, the Truck Zone and the Auto Show. The Classic Corral is perfect for gearheads who appreciate all things vintage. Each week of the fair, a new classic car club will display different vehicles such as Jeeps, Model A’s and more.
Chevrolet has a fun ride and drive course where you can take some of our favorites for a spin including the 2017 Silverado LD, HD, the 2016 Colorado and the 2017 Malibu. But don’t take our word for it; you can preview their rugged track in the video below:
The Truck Zone features the latest truck models from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, Ram and Toyota. Since one in every five trucks in America is sold in Texas, locals have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the new models each year.
Saving the best for last, the Auto Show is where the main action is. A number of new vehicles and announcements were unveiled during media day allowing State Fair attendees the first opportunity to see them in person. Here are the announcements we were most excited to see:
While we’re waiting for the update to the 2017 model year, Ram has given us this handsome silver edition truck with a luxury grille and the fun Lone Star badging. With it’s stamped steel bed and high-strength steel frame we can certainly see why everything’s bigger in Texas.
Chevrolet unveiled Lonzo Anderson’s 16-year-old Silverado with more than 375,000 miles as the Official Chevy Truck Legend of Texas. After 15 trips around the globe on the original engine it’s easy to see why this fantastic beast has a place of honor at this year’s fair.
Named the ‘Truck of Texas’ last year, Nissan aimed to please by unveiling the Texas Titan with custom features such as a special chrome grille, and Titan Texas floor mats. We’re a fan of its steel front skid plate and enhanced towing capacity thanks to its upgraded high-strength steel frame.
Nearly two-thirds of the Sierra cab structure is made from high-strength steels making it a fortress of strength. Towing the heaviest of loads, we got a peek underneath the truck at this year’s fair.
What do you think about these new trucks?
If you haven’t made it out to the State Fair of Texas, these trucks will be on display through October 23. So grab Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly and a Smoky Bacon Margarita and visit Big Tex at the State Fair!
